Today we all went to the Samuel Dorsky Museum of Art. The poster exhibit was fabulous. We're so lucky to have this great museum on campus. One piece that excited me was "Hommage a Raoul Dufy: Salles de L'hotel de Ville." Blue dominates -- blue of the sky, although this is the sea -- wide brush strokes from side to side with the white paper showing through -- like gentle waves in the water. The perspective is from the deck of a sailboat, looking out to sea. The mast in the foreground is decorated up and down both sides with bright flags whipping in the breeze. Across the harbor before us dozens of boats are sailing in all directions. Their sails are brightly colored. Farther out to sea seveal stemaships are streaming over the waves. The whole composition bursts with color and the sense of motion. The sails are drenched in sunshine that glints off the water. I want to climb right into the poster!
